My granddad can walk into a room and light it up with that permanent twinkle in his eye, and the biggest cheekiest grin, fixed on his face, and all who know him fall in love with again.
I remember a time when me and mum came down from Birmingham and we came to see Granddad and Velma, and we went on a visit to Broadstairs. It was a fantastic day until . . . mum and Velma was ahead of me and granddad and were already in the car, while me a granddad were still walking towards it when this gigantic wave came over, and I didn't like water over my head at the time, and I started balling me eyes out while granddad was worried about the car, we spend the remainder of the day looking for a car wash! I look back on this memory and I laugh!
There was a time as well when the four of us were on a boat on the way to France, when me and mum went outside onto the deck and there a gush of wind that blew my dress up and while mum and me were trying to keep it down my hat flew right off and into the sea, I was very upset. we went back to granddad then and he said to me "you know where that's gone , don't you? the mermaids have got it, they wanted it" He always knew what to say to cheer me up.
There was a time when we went to the zoo and I remember there being loads of wasps around, and I was being a right coward about them, but granddad with his trusty walking stick squashed them with it! that was a good day
Sadly last Tuesday my Granddad passed on, though he is no longer here he will always be in my heart and in my head forever. He was my hero and inspiration and one of the best, and I'm soo lucky to have had him in my life
I love you Granddad always, Rest in Peace
